The Job Market and College Graduates

With the economy being in the shape that it is in, will college graduates have a tougher time finding employment after graduation? So many companies are closing down that it makes it harder to find employment whether you just graduated from college or graduated years ago.

The traditional way of sending out cover letters and resumes that cover basic areas does not work anymore. Companies want to hire the best employees they can, so they look at cover letters and resumes that pertain to the kind of work that their companies do.

Companies will still be hiring people that graduate from college. It is just that they will be hiring less graduates than in previous years. This means that not only will the job seeker have a tough time finding a position, but the companies are now being choosier. The college graduate should start looking for a job before he is out of school. He might even have to consider an internship at first, but at least this will get him in the door.

According to one survey, the number of college graduates employed decreased while the number of high school drop outs working increased. This was due to the fact that companies do not have the money to purchase new equipment, so they need less skilled workers. Employers also want people with job experience. While most graduates do not have this, people who have lost jobs due to their company closing do, and are often chosen over the college graduate.
