It is time to face up to the fact that the large SUV, with its low fuel economy, has to be on its way out. With the way fuel prices are jumping up and down and not staying at an acceptable level, something has to change.
The American public is in favor of these vehicles. They like the power that is required to get them where they want to go and the comfort of their roomy interiors. The convenience of their room is ideal for all of the parents that car pool their children to sports events, scout meetings and recreation projects.
Unfortunately, Americans were not able to be forewarned about the increase in fuel to more then double its cost. Fuel has recently dropped down, but with the way the economy is climbing, it will not stay at the present figure long. It is still very hard to keep an SUV gassed up. More people are trading in their SUVs for smaller, more economical cars every day. Many believe that the market for SUVs will soon diminish into nothing.
It will be up to the automobile manufacturers to devise ways to make their SUVs more economically friendly. With automakers producing hybrids, this will help. By 2010, the hybrid should be developed enough to satisfy economical patterns. Also, with the development of additives to gasoline, the SUV as we know it today should be around for a while, regardless of the economy today.
