Texting as a type of communication was primarily used by the younger generation in its initial phases. It is nice way to send a quick hello when you don't have time to talk on the phone. It also helps you to stay in contact with the people you normally couldn’t due to different time frames and such. This technology has now become popular with people of all ages. There are even grandparents out there texting their grandchildren and friends!
Just like with anything else, there are both good and bad sides to this new wave of communication. Many of the younger generation have stopped talking on the phone altogether. This can be good for the phone bill but not so good for children as it eliminates true forms of communication that we require as human beings. Where you are texting is a big issue these days as well. People are now texting while driving, riding bikes, skateboarding and while walking. This has led to serious injuries, like stepping off the curb and breaking an ankle or walking out in front of a car.
Texting is now being used in the work field too. This makes it easier to send messages that people will need immediately without interrupting their current task. Texting can be a huge asset in a business situation or for families who need to get a change of plans to a family member right away. It can also be used to communicate in times when talking on the phone is not allowed or would be inappropriate.
