It is a tough market since the recession started over a year ago. The amount of jobs has dwindled down and the market looks a bit dim. Yet that does not mean it has to be dim for college students.
The persons graduating from college this year will have a real task in front of them in order to get a job. With the unemployment rate at an all time high, employment is hard to come by. The experts claim, however, that if you plan right, you can still be successful in your endeavors. Students must try to start planning by the beginning of their senior year in order to make contacts and begin the resume process. You can never start too soon!
You're also encouraged to be flexible in your approach with the desired companies. If you have a certain field in mind, be able to accept anything in your general field, rather than the specifics. Put down what your first choice is, but be willing to settle for less in order to open up more doors for employment.
Another avenue to utilize is your colleges alumni services. Be willing to write letters to those whose field of business you desire. There are several alumni groups that will assist you with finding employment. It may not be your specific field, but may allow other opportunities to open towards your major interest. Also, make sure that your motivation level is high and your future employer feels your enthusiasm. This will be essential for your chances at employment and a successful future with the company!
