Bud Selig and Steroids

Baseball has had a hit to its reputation of being the all American clean-cut fun game. Selig's name is spewed out like venom because of baseball's steroid problem; however, some are convinced that the higher ups in baseball are responsible for the steroid problem in baseball.

Selig has done one thing right, the World Baseball Classic. The Classic is considered to be the best entertainment for those who are die hard fans. The tournament was designed as the first International baseball competition in which the U.S. and Japanese major league players compete. It is too early to say whether the Classic is a place that will produce International talent, however, domestic talent has been declining. Steroids may be some of the cause.

Bud Selig, the baseball commissioner, defends his role in the sport's steroid scandal. He points to the players' union opposition to drug testing and a lack of curiosity by the media as the problem grows. Selig says the drug testing program adopted in 2002 is weak. He also noted that amphetamines have also been banned from baseball. Selig feels that all he could do now is to clean up the sport. He feels that he is doing just that. Selig still feels that there is work that needs to be done in eliminating drug use. He feels frustrated that minor league drug testing was started in 1998. He feels that everyone was not paying attention enough to realize that drugs were a problem back then too.
