History Of The Super bowl

The Super Bowl started with American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL) in 1966. Until 1969 when the name became official, it was called "The NFL-AFL World Championship Game."

The Green Bay Packers won the the first two championship games in 1967 and 1968 over the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders respectively. In 1969, the New York Jets won the first Super Bowl over the Baltimore Colts to win officially the first Super Bowl. The winning team received what is called the "the Super Bowl Trophy," also known as "The Vince Lombardi Trophy." In 1970, the American Football League and the National Football League merged to one; thus, becoming The National Football League as we know it today. They then made two conferences. The American Football League became the American Football Conference and the National Football League became the National Football Conference. The name of the league remains "The National Football League."

These days, their is so much more to the NFL than before. Now it has become one of the most watched television broadcast of the year. Super Bowl Sunday has become the second largest food consumption day next to Thanksgiving. You also have the big time 30 second TV commercials from various company's and their products. It has become part of the Super Bowl culture yearly. Famous singers and musicians perform at halftime along with the rest of the halftime ceremonies. To date, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with six victories. The Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers both have five Super Bowl wins.
