On Sunday February 1, 2009 the city of Tampa Bay, Florida, played host to Super Bowl XLII. The game was held at Raymond James Stadium. The mayors of the two participating cities, Pittsburgh and Glendale, got as much publicity as possible on their cities by putting themselves out there in the public eye. The Pittsburgh Steelers were there to try to beat the Arizona Cardinals.
The Steelers were heavily favored against upstart Cardinals, who'd followed a mediocre regular season with a deep and shocking playoff run.
The Steelers took a quick lead with two field goals, but Arizona responded with a touchdown, then another to Pittsburgh's red zone, threatening to score before the half ended. But Steeler linebacker picked Kurt Warner's pass off at the one yard line, returning the ball 99 yards for a touchdown to close the half.
The fourth quarter began with the Steelers in control with a 13 point lead. Somehow, the Cardinals pulled themselves up and managed to get two touchdowns, taking the lead with two and a half minutes to play on a spectacular pass across the middle to Larry Fitzgerald, his second touchdown catch of the day.
The Steelers put together a two-minute drive, capped with a stunning touchdown catch by Santonio Holmes in the back corner of the endzone. Arizona mounted a brief drive in the waning seconds, but couldn't pull it off, and Pittsburgh brought home their record sixth Super Bowl championship.
