There are many professional athletes that are paid millions of dollars for what they do. Many of these athletes have barely been in their respective leagues and are making more than proven veterans. More than half of the top fifty paid athletes are basketball players. However, the athlete that makes the most money is Tiger Woods.
Woods made nearly $23 million in winnings and another $105 million in endorsements. The second highest paid athlete in sports is Phil Mickelson. He did not even make half as much as Tiger Woods in 2007. Phil made $9 million in earnings and $53 million from endorsements. The athlete with the highest yearly salary, not including endorsements, is Alex Rodriguez, and he makes $29 million a year.
The NBA player that makes the most money is LeBron James. He made just over $12 million in salary and another $28 million in endorsements. The NBA player with the highest base salary is Kevin Garnett, who makes $22 million.
Surprisingly, the athlete with the highest salary in the NFL is Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He makes nearly $23 million a year. Even more surprising is that the NFL player with the second highest salary is Raiders’ quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Russell makes over $20 million a year. He is only in his second season in the league and did not even play during the first year. What is not surprising is that the player with the most earnings is Peyton Manning. His total earnings are $30 million. He gets $17 million from his salary and $13 million from endorsements.
